Running the iStill One by ABV

05 October 2015
Introduction Our rigs have temperature probes that give you ultimate control. But many of our customers only have experience with making cuts by taste and by the alcohol percentage (ABV) of the product that comes of the still. So, if you want to run the iStill One by ABV, how would that go? Here's an explanation. Configuration The iStill One is equiped with the catalyst and with all cleaning sections in place and packed. Power management during heat-up is 100%, power input during the actual production phase is 55%. One run finishing approach
  1. Heat-up at 100% power input;
  2. When production starts, lower power input to 55%;
  3. Collect a gallon of Heads and discard these;
  4. Now collect Hearts until the ABV drops to:
    • 40% in case of taste rich product with short aging;
    • 35% in case of taste rich product with longer aging.
  5. Then collect Tails until the ABV drops to 25%;
  6. Hydroseparate the Tails by diluting them to 17%;
  7. Syphon off the lower 2/3rd of the now hydroseparated Tails;
  8. Add them to the next run.
Stripping run If you use the iStill One to strip and then use the iStill 250 or iStill 500 to finish, the procedure is like this:
  1. Heat-up at 100% power input;
  2. When production starts, lower power input to 55%;
  3. Collect a gallon of Heads and discard these;
  4. Now collect Strippings until the ABV drops to 25%;
  5. Add the strippings to the iStill 250 or iStill 500;
  6. Dilute to 30% with:
    • Water, when you want to do a Pure run for a vodka;
    • Fresh wash, when you want to make taste rich in Potstill mode.
